Introducing the Viking 74 Convertible—ready to make waves at her world premiere during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this fall. Hot off the production line, this latest masterpiece from Viking Yachts is built for speed, comfort, and serious fishing. With over 60 years of boatbuilding expertise, Viking has done it again, and the 74 Convertible is set to dominate the 70-80 foot range. Following the success of the 82 Convertible, this second-generation 74 Viking is guaranteed to turn heads and set new standards. Don’t miss your chance to see this powerhouse in person.

60 Years of Innovation in Yacht Building

“When you’re building a better boat every day, there’s no resting on your laurels,” says Viking President and CEO Pat Healey. Celebrating Viking’s 60th anniversary, Healey reflects on the company’s unyielding dedication to designing and refining their fleet. “We just keep designing and refining to develop fresh new models for our owners.” Be sure to check out the video to see firsthand how Viking continues to push the boundaries of innovation and craftsmanship.

Designed for Dominance

The Viking 74 Convertible follows in the footsteps of the popular Viking 72, a yacht known for reaching speeds of up to 45 knots. Viking’s goal with the 74 was to match, or even surpass, that performance—and they’ve done just that.

Engineering Excellence

David Wilson, Viking’s Design Manager, explains, “The 72 was the fastest boat in our history, and the 74 will likely become the new speed king.” Using Computational Fluid Dynamics software, the team fine-tuned the yacht’s performance. Notable refinements include the 74’s aggressive strakes and chines for enhanced spray deflection and lift, as well as a carefully balanced length-to-beam ratio for superior ride quality.

Unleashing Power

With twin 2600HP MTU engines and Viking’s Advanced Propulsion System (AVPS), the new 74 Convertible is built for exceptional speed and power. In comparison, the original Gen I Viking 74, built between 2004 and 2008, reached a top speed of 37 knots with twin 2000HP MTUs, which increased to 40 knots with the 2400HP upgrade.

Today’s 74 benefits from even more horsepower and significant hull design improvements. Additionally, the AVPS utilizes modified struts and rudders with “twisted” shapes that reduce hydrodynamic resistance, enhancing overall performance and efficiency on the water.

Superior Construction

Viking is known for using the latest materials and methods to build strong, lightweight boats. The hull of the Viking 74 Convertible is resin-infused, which improves strength while keeping weight down. The yacht also uses carbon fiber and core materials to increase durability without sacrificing performance.

A modified vinylester/epoxy resin is used throughout the hull to enhance blister protection and structural integrity. Viking has even gone as far as choosing specific types of wood for the interior to save weight. These small details make a big difference, helping the boat perform at its best while maintaining Viking’s high standards of luxury and comfort.

Cockpit and Flybridge

The Viking 74 Convertible is designed with serious anglers in mind. Its large 216-square-foot cockpit—nearly 10 inches longer than the Viking 72—offers plenty of space for fishing and storing gear. Two full-length in-deck fish boxes, a transom door with a lift gate, and a transom fishbox/live well with a 101-gallon capacity (or 122 gallons as an option) make it easy to handle big catches.

The mezzanine seating offers premium outdoor upholstery with dry storage underneath, while port-side storage includes a tackle cabinet, ice chipper box, and refrigerated step box. Two freezer boxes are located on the starboard side, and guests can enjoy the shade from the flybridge overhang with optional air conditioning. Easy access to the engine room is provided through the centerline mezzanine steps.

The flybridge is equally impressive, offering a 7-inch raised platform at the helm for better visibility. The walkaround center console is designed to be user-friendly, with all the essential controls and displays within easy reach. Viking even offers an air-conditioning option for the helm, making this space as comfortable as it is functional.

Luxurious Interior

Step inside the Viking 74 Convertible and you’ll find Viking’s signature craftsmanship everywhere you look. The interior features beautiful horizontal-grain walnut, available in either satin or gloss finishes.

The salon is spacious, with a large sofa that has rod storage underneath, a hi-lo walnut table, and an entertainment center with a hidden HDTV. The galley offers two configurations: a U-shaped layout or an open galley with an island counter. Both options include high-end appliances and plenty of storage space.

The Viking 74 Convertible has a standard four-stateroom layout, with each room featuring its own private bathroom. The master stateroom comes with a king-size bed and ample storage, while the forward stateroom includes a walkaround queen bed. The crew quarters and additional staterooms offer comfortable sleeping arrangements for guests or crew members. If you need even more space, a five-stateroom option is available.

Engine Room and Mechanics

The engine room of the Viking 74 Convertible is a marvel of modern engineering. Finished with Snow White Awlgrip for easy cleaning, it’s equipped with advanced systems like dual 29 kW generators, a fire suppression system, and options like omnidirectional sonar. Viking’s innovative Centralized Seawater System also makes maintenance easier by reducing complexity and improving reliability.

Seamless Convenience

For added convenience, the yacht is offered with the CLEARLINE System, which uses chlorinated water to prevent marine growth in seawater lines. Also, Viking’s subsidiaries, Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers, can fully equip the 74 Convertible with advanced communication, navigation, and entertainment systems, along with a custom tuna tower. This allows for seamless, turnkey delivery straight from the factory.

World Premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

The world will get its first look at the Viking 74 Convertible during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this fall. The first hull will be an open bridge model powered by twin 2635MHP MTU 16V 2000 M96Ls, though other engine options from MTU, MAN, and Caterpillar will also be available.

In addition to the open bridge model, the 74 will also be offered as an enclosed bridge model or with Viking’s Sky Bridge option. Whether you’re looking for a tournament-winning sportfisher or a luxurious cruiser, the Viking 74 Convertible is sure to impress.
