The Birth of Bertram Yachts

The Bertram story began in 1960 with a single prototype named Moppie, which shocked the boating world by winning the Miami–Nassau Race. Designed with a revolutionary deep-V hull that extended the full length of the boat—rather than tapering into a flat planing surface—Moppie delivered a level of speed, stability, and control that competitors couldn’t match.

After the victory, Bertram received immediate demand for production models, leading to the creation of the legendary Bertram 31—built in Hialeah, Florida. The first fiberglass-hulled Moppie went on to win the 1961 Miami–Nassau race, setting a new course record and establishing Bertram as a leader in offshore performance.

Legacy of Performance and Craftsmanship

From the very beginning, Bertram Yachts were designed to thrive where other boats struggled—through heavy chop and challenging seas. The deep-V hull design, still a signature of Bertram today, allows each yacht to plane quickly, maintain stability at high speeds, and deliver a remarkably smooth ride.

As Bertram grew under new ownership with Motor Products Corporation, investments in advanced tooling and facilities fueled continuous innovation. Each Bertram model was—and still is—built with meticulous attention to detail, using the finest materials and expert craftsmanship to ensure unmatched performance and longevity.
