As the day tank over fills, it will overflow back to the two main tanks, this not only assures that the fuel in all three tanks is clean, but also that the fuel in the day tank is cool. Should you only wish to transfer fuel at set intervals, the day tank is designed so that the two main tanks act as heat sinks to equalize the fuel temperature. There are three ways of transferring fuel, including a manual pump.
