Aft and starboard up several stairway steps from the pilothouse is the enormous flybridge. The Flybridge on this 64 GA was built with more seating than any previous Grand Alaskan 60 or 64 Pilothouse. The upper deck was extended by four feet to create even more usable space and allowing room for a 14' dinghy and low profile 1500# davit. An additional area of seating, with storage to starboard, was added to the normal L shaped, port side seating. Two Stidd helm chairs are located at the helm.
Behind the L-shaped seating is a custom fiberglass storage cabinet, and an integral 35 gallon fuel tank for the tender's engine. Aft of the starboard side seating is an additional fiberglass cabinet with a sink, built in propane grill, & freshwater washdown. Overhead, LED lighting has been installed in the Bimini top for ambience and enjoyment.
Access to the engine room is either from a large hatch on the aft deck to the Lazarette, and then through a dogged aluminum watertight door with viewing port or from a forward watertight door with viewing port from the master stateroom. The engine room has overhead opening hatches, which can be removed for the installation or removal of large pieces of equipment and additional lighting was specified during construction. The hydraulic systems, fuel systems and tanks, oil change systems, access to the stabilizers, are all located for easy access.
The Lazarette is large enough for cases of stored goods, spare parts, and tools and also has the full size Frigidaire Gallery separate washer and dryer. All vessel air conditioning compressors are located here, (3 replaced in the last four years), together with the 700 gallon per day water maker, with self- flushing system. The muffler system is a Soundown system for noise reduction. The GE Washer and Dryer are easily accessed here.
The walk around decks and foredeck on this GA64 are non skid, Awlgrip painted surfaces, refinished in 2020. Boarding this vessel is a delight, with port and starboard, dogged boarding doors at dock height. Additional ventilation for the main engines was specified. The Maxwell 3500 dual Capstan windlass has a double anchor roller, and was just overhauled in 2023. Her 125# Mantus anchor, with custom made bridle and waterline bow eye, makes anchoring easy and safe, providing for reduced scope. The bulwarks and Portuguese bridge provide an unhampered and protected walkway around the entire yacht which provides maximum safety for crew and guests. The foredeck has a comfortable seat, a freshwater wash down, & 50 amp shore power inlet. Varnished handrails & toe rails are in excellent condition, and the forward stainless steel railings on the bow are designed to hold the stanchion bases off the teak toe rails to facilitate easier bright work maintenance. Special attention & extra cost allowed the yard to extend her side teak fender railings well past the handrails so any contact with a dock or pilings does not impact handrails or hull.
This 64 Grand Alaskan is a perfect example of how a cruising yacht should be equipped and maintained. The moment you step aboard it is obvious with her hull finish, recently painted deck areas, refinished bright work, new flybridge enclosure, and so much more. The owners' continual updates & maintenance which includes waxing every six months, monthly bottom cleaning, monthly pest control services, and constant attention to all onboard systems via a yacht management service, have kept this GA 64 in superb condition. She generally runs at hull speed of 10 knots, which produces fuel economy of one gallon per mile, however she can effortlessly run faster, if desired. Her stabilizers and hull design make her steady and safe in any seaway, and her Yacht Controller remote control, together with full deck, walk-around access make her very easy to dock and maneuver for any cruising couple. She is a true value when compared to other blue water passage makers, and is turn key ready to cruise.
