Why Choose Viking Yachts?

New Viking Frequently Asked Questions

Viking Yachts was founded in 1964 when brothers Bob and Bill Healey purchased a small, struggling New Jersey boat builder called Peterson-Viking Builders. What began as a modest operation has evolved into one of the world’s premier manufacturers of semi-custom fiberglass sportfishing yachts.

For more than six decades, Viking has remained proudly family-owned and operated. Today, Pat Healey—Bill’s son—serves as President and CEO, while Robert Healey Jr.—Bob’s son—acts as Executive Co-Chairman of the Viking Yacht Group, overseeing the company’s extensive marine, real estate, and investment ventures.

In April 2024, Viking Yachts celebrated its 60th anniversary—marking six decades of innovation, craftsmanship, and leadership in the sportfishing yacht industry. Viking lives by the motto: “We build a better boat every day.” This means continuous innovation, in-house manufacturing, and a relentless focus on quality and performance.

The Viking Yachts Company builds its semi-custom sportfishing in New Gretna and Mullica, New Jersey. These world-class manufacturing facilities represent the pinnacle of yacht construction, featuring nine modern buildings, state-of-the-art equipment, and the capacity to produce more than 30 models at once—from the 46 Billfish to the 90 Convertible.

The New Gretna facility alone offers enough space to build over 30 models at one time, enabling Viking to produce more than one hundred yachts each year. These yachts are valued from approximately $1 million to over $10 million. 90% of every Viking yacht is designed and manufactured in-house—a true reflection of the company’s dedication to quality, precision, and innovation.

Beyond production, Viking’s New Gretna facility is powered in part by solar energy and features its own water supply, along with an on-site hospital and medical center for employees. Viking also operates two factory-owned service centers—one in New Gretna, New Jersey, and another in Riviera Beach, Florida—providing exceptional customer support long after delivery.

Viking prides itself as the premier manufacturer of quality sportfish yachts ranging from 46-90 feet. They have celebrated over six decades in business, building luxury performance semi-custom yachts and are the gold standard when it comes to sportfishing yachts. Since day one, their mantra of building a better boat every day is the passion that drives this company. Check out the top 10 reasons why you should purchase a Viking Yacht.
