My recent fishing adventures aboard Fish Tank’s 64 Viking and Pura Vida’s 68 Viking in the beautiful waters of Los Sueños, Costa Rica were absolutely incredible. The experience led to many unforgettable memories, and I eagerly share my sportfishing experiences with those curious about the world of angling.

The Supportive Nature of the Sportfishing Community

To newcomers in the world of sportfishing who may be reluctant to take the plunge, my advice is to dive in without hesitation. My main takeaway from this trip is that the sportfishing community is super friendly and supportive, always ready to help you improve your skills and master the art of angling. Whether it’s sharing insider tips, showing you effective techniques, or giving you some encouragement, your fellow anglers are excited to see you succeed and have a great time out on the water.

Sportfishing Goes Beyond the Catch

From the moment we stepped foot on both Viking Yachts, a strong feeling of togetherness and camaraderie enveloped us. Laughter filled the air as stories were exchanged, friendships were forged, and bonds were strengthened. It was a nice reminder that the joy of fishing goes beyond the catch – it’s about the connections we make and the memories we create together on the water.

A Sport For Everyone

The two days I spent offshore with each team were extraordinary! From the moment we set course, it was evident that the connection among the owners and crew was strong and genuine. It was inspiring to see how everyone worked together with baiting hooks, reeling in catches, and celebrating each successful moment. And watching the couples work together in the cockpit was a true testament to the fact that fishing is a sport for everyone, regardless of your skill level or gender.

During my fishing adventure, I managed to reel in four sailfish – an exhilarating escapade that will stay with me forever! It was exciting to participate in the tag/release effort and understand this important aspect of billfish conservation.

The Company You Keep – The Beauty of Sportfishing

It is worth noting that trolling can vary from moments of quick excitement to hours of anticipation. Throughout my sportfishing escapades, I encountered both situations – with fish biting eagerly at times and patiently waiting for the big catch at others. But the true essence of sportfishing is the company you keep. Whether the waters are teeming with game fish, or the catches are few and far between, sharing these moments with friends or family guarantees an experience that will be treasured forever.

The Helpful Crew

Rest assured, if the action becomes overwhelming, the crew is always ready to lend a helping hand, just as they did for me. In my view, the crew plays a vital role in keeping the operation running smoothly, always making sure that everyone is looked after, well-fed, and promptly helped whenever a fish is on the line. A heartfelt thank you goes out to both crews for making the experience even more enjoyable.

The Passion Behind the Sport

Even though the blue marlin stayed elusive during my trip, the excitement of hooking numerous sailfish aboard Fish Tank and reeling in sailfish and other prized pelagic on Pura Vida undoubtedly satisfied my craving for adrenaline and left me filled with a sense of profound fulfillment. The shared excitement, the teamwork, and the mutual support among everyone created a sense of camaraderie that was truly heartwarming. It was a clear indication of the joy and sense of belonging that sportfishing can bring. I now fully understand the passion behind the sport, as the escapade truly stands out from any other.
