Team Galati Named 2-Time Grand Champions of Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown
We are excited to announce that Team Galati is named Grand Champions for the second year in a row for the Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown sportfishing tournament. Big congratulations to the anglers aboard the 58 Viking Convertible, a proven tournament winner! View the highlights of leg I and II here. Team Galati scored a total of 15,500 points between the three-leg series, landing them in the first place position. Grand Slam came in second with 12,800 points, and Fish Tank scored third place with 12,700 points. Team Galati also took home the “daily win” for all three days of Leg III, sweeping the scoreboard.
Leg III Recap
The stakes were high going into the third and final leg of the 2021 Signature Triple Crown Tournament. Twenty-eight of the 39 participating teams were fishing two tournaments in one; these teams participated in the 2020 Triple Crown and were here to complete the series, with their points going to determine the first, second, and third-place teams for Leg 3 and the 2020 Series Champion. Day one brought the heat with a total of 311 sails and 18 marlin releases. Within the last 7 minutes of the day, Team Galati released two doubleheaders to earn 2,400 points and take the daily win ahead of Dealer’s Choice with 1,900 points.
Day Two started off with a flurry of marlin, with 8 marlin hookups and 9 marlin releases before 9:00 am. Team Galati finished once again at the top of the leaderboard with 4,500 points, followed by Tarheel with 3,700 points, besting Eight Eights on time. A total of 350 sails and 22 marlin were released on Day 2, for a two-day total of 701 billfish.
Going into day three, Team Galati had already tallied 13,600 points over three legs and secured a pretty 1,700 point lead over Fish Tank for the 2021 Series Championship. Team Galati kept the momentum going as they finished first for Leg 3, with a final count of 54 sails and 2 marlin for 6,400 points; followed by Eight Eights with a three-day total of 25 sails and 5 marlin for 5,000 points; and Dragin Fly completed the top three with 38 sails, 2 marlin for 4,800 points. Team Galati amassed a total of 13,900 points for the 2020 Signature Triple Crown, outdoing Tarheel’s 12,700 points, and Outage’s 12,000 points.
About the Signature Triple Crown Series
The Triple Crown is one of the world’s most competitive billfish tournaments, bringing in top anglers from around the world. The tournament story at Los Sueños began in 2004 with the first billfish competition. Nearly two decades later, the events have become some of the fiercest anywhere, drawing teams from the United States, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Brazil, and Russia.
Los Suenos Ladies Only Tournament
In other news, Team Galati took home second place in Leg III of the Los Suenos Triple Crown Ladies Only Tournament. This was the third annual Ladies Angler Tournament, a one-day event held on Tuesday before each leg of the Signature Triple Crown! The 11 participating teams with their 49 participating anglers, fished eight hours to release 108 sails and 6 marlin for 114 total billfish. Uno Mas took first for the event with 1,900 points, Team Galati in second with 1,800 points, and Southern Pride took third with 1,700 points.
