The History of Prestige Yachts: Innovation, Style & Global Success

The History of Prestige Yachts: Innovation, Style & Global Success
powerboat - prestige history
Prestige 36

The story of Prestige Yachts began in 1957 when Henri Jeanneau founded the Jeanneau shipyard in Les Herbiers, France. One day, he saw a powerboat speed by his window and became instantly fascinated. That same year, he built his first wooden boat and entered a major race in Paris. He crossed the finish line first, and his passion for boating was born.

A Focus on Innovation Early On

From the beginning, Jeanneau focused on innovation. One of their earliest boats, the “Fiberglass Sport,” was among the first to use fiberglass technology, which was new at the time. This material became a game-changer in boatbuilding and helped set Jeanneau apart from others in the industry.

The First Prestige Yacht: Prestige 41

The Prestige 41In 1989, Jeanneau introduced the Prestige 41, marking the launch of the Prestige Yachts brand. Designed by the well-known Garroni Design team, this luxury motor yacht offered modern style and strong performance. It was the company’s first step into the world of luxury yachts and set the tone for what Prestige would become known for: stylish, comfortable yachts built for real cruising.

Expanding with Flybridge Models

Jeanneau Prestige 36 In 2000, Prestige reached another milestone with the launch of the Prestige 36, its first flybridge model. At the time, there was growing interest in yachts between 30 and 50 feet. The Prestige 36 met that demand with a roomy layout, wide sun deck, and upper helm station. That same year, a new production facility opened in Les Herbiers to help support the brand’s growing success.

Growth in the 2000s

From 1999 to 2009, Prestige continued to release new Open and Flybridge models each year. These designs stood out for their clean lines, easy handling, and advanced features. By 2008, over 2,000 Prestige yachts were cruising across Europe. In 2009, Prestige became a separate brand within Groupe Beneteau and began exporting to the U.S. and Asia.

The Prestige 60: A New Class of Yacht

60 Prestige YachtIn 2010, Prestige introduced the Prestige 60, entering the large yacht segment. It featured elegant design, modern comfort, and Volvo IPS pod drives. The model was well received and won several awards, including “European Boat of the Year” and “Croatian Powerboat of the Year.”

Continued Success and Recognition

Over the next few years, Prestige released standout models like the Prestige 500, Prestige 550, and the larger Prestige 750. The 750, launched in 2014, came with added production capabilities at a new facility in Monfalcone, Italy. It earned honors such as “Best Layout” and “Most Achieved” at the World Yacht Trophies, and the “European Powerboat of the Year” award in 2015.

Where Prestige Yachts Stands Today

Today, Prestige Yachts stands as a respected leader in the motor yacht market, with more than 5,000 yachts built and a presence worldwide. The brand has earned a strong reputation in the 50-60-foot category, especially in the U.S. Now a key part of Groupe Beneteau, Prestige combines refined French engineering with Italian-inspired design, creating stylish, comfortable yachts that meet the needs of modern boaters across the globe.

Modern Lines for Every Boater

The brand offers four main lines, each catering to different lifestyles:

  • F-Line, 3rd Generation – Features large outdoor spaces, dual helm stations, and a focus on comfort and visibility.

  • S-Line – Sportier yachts with sleek profiles and enhanced performance.

  • X-Line – Crossover models that blend the benefits of a flybridge with a spacious main deck layout.
  • M-Line – Prestige’s newest addition, offering multihull yachts for unmatched stability and living space at sea.

Prestige yachts are also becoming more efficient and environmentally conscious. Newer models use advanced propulsion systems, reduced-emission engines, and materials with less environmental impact—all while maintaining luxury and comfort.
