CELEBRATING RETIREMENT AFTER 30 YEARS – HARRY FEGAN

Three Questions with … Harry Fegan

This month, we celebrated the retirement of Harry Fegan who spent 30 years with the Galati team in our service department. Harry started with Galati in 1987 as a bottom painter and then moved to rigging. Later, Harry went to marine mechanic school and became a mobile tech servicing engines. With his passion for GYS and deep product knowledge, Harry moved into the management side of the service department and became the right-hand man to Mike Galati, who runs service for the company

After retirement Harry plans to work on his honey-do list. He is looking forward to spending time with his family and grandchildren in Michigan. Harry also has a sweet spot in his hart for Italy and plans to visit again.

Q: What makes a great day at work?

A: The greatest days at work are when a customer picks up his boat and is really happy with the results. When the customer leaves the docks, happy, smiling and waving good-bye, it’s a great feeling.

I’ve made some really good friends with our customers. Customers who ask about the family and are generally interested in life outside of work.

Q: In 30 years, you’ve seen a lot of change, what are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen?

A: The electronics, and engines plus touchscreens control everything that switches controlled before. Everything is controlled by the latest technology. Yachts are more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly too. In design, there seems to be a swing to the European style. It’s like designers are putting a home on the water that’s going 40 knots.

Q: At GYS, we live by the philosophy of the Galati Difference. What has that meant to you?

A: I’m proud to say that I work for the Galatis! No reservations. I think that the Galati family has contributed more to the marine industry than any other dealer. I really believe that!

For example, Carmine noticed a need for trained technicians so he worked with his marine industry contacts to support building a training program. The Galatis use their time and knowledge to make the industry great.

For instance, the interaction with manufactures, and how they look to us for answers and feedback. How customers are treated, and the fact that the customers come back to us for boat after boat is a testament to the Galati difference.

And, I had the opportunity to work for Mr. Galati before he passed in 1992. He was a fair and honest man.
