Spring is almost here, and there is no better way to spend Spring Break than on the water. We have the perfect travel itinerary for those looking to relish in warm tropical weather, white-sand beaches, and turquoise waters. Of course, we are talking about the Bahamas. With an abundance of islands, attractions, and activities to do, this is the perfect spring excursion for families, friends, or couples. View our proposed Bahamas itinerary below.
This excursion can be anywhere from 2-3 weeks from start to finish. This extended excursion may be lengthy in time, but it is the perfect amount of time to experience each destination. Plus, it is just enough time to brush up on boat handling ability and navigational skills if you had a long winter away from boating. Your first-day travels will begin en route to Marathon, Florida. From Marathon, you will start to make way for the Bahamas. The first stop, Chub Cay.
Chub Cay sits as part of a group of islands known as the Berry Islands Bahamas, which are 30 islands and nearly 100 cays that take up a total landmass of fewer than 12 square miles. Chub Cay provides a gorgeous setting and access to some of the liveliest fishing spots in the entire Atlantic Ocean region. Let your stresses melt away as you bask in the sun, enjoy a cocktail, and take in the fresh ocean air. Chub Chay provides plenty of activities and attractions that include diving, swimming with pigs, offshore fishing, and much more. Also, check out Chub Cay Resort & Marina for even more fun.
From Chub, the next destination is Harbor Island. To get there, you will travel through the Devil’s Backbone, which is an incredible experience. While it may seem a bit sketchy, this reef is home to some of the most serene snorkeling spots in the Bahamas. A boater must be cautious and follow the GPS as well as the markings around the reef. Getting too close to the rocks can be disastrous. Once you arrive at Harbor Island, the picturesque island offers a vibrant locale, with quaint roads winding through candy-colored islet. The simplicity of the island is perfect for unwinding and enjoying activities such as horseback riding, shopping, and visiting the pink sand beaches.
From Harbor Island, head to Albany Resort on New Providence Island, set on 600 Oceanside acres, where everything they do is first class. The Albany offers unparalleled luxury in some of the most architecturally inspiring buildings in the Caribbean. Not to mention, the marina is well equipped, restaurants are 5-star, and their golf courses are impeccable.
From Albany, your next stop is Highborne Cay. Highborne is known worldwide as the gateway to the ultimate ephemeral islands – The Exuma Cays. This destination is an endless terrain of remarkable beauty and activities galore. Enjoy island tour excursions, diving, snorkeling, hiking, fishing, and so much more.
From Highborne, head south to Staniel Cay. This tourist favorite offers a rich history, breathtaking beaches, azure waters, and top-of-the-line attractions. Staniel Cay Yacht Club is a necessary stay for most fisherman, yachters, and celebrities traveling all over the Bahamas. Another top attraction is swimming with sharks at Compass Cay, do not worry; these reef sharks are non-aggressive. If that is too daring, you can also swim with pigs at Big Major Cay. If you have time, another significant attraction is snorkeling in Thunderball Grotto, famously known for scenes in a few Hollywood movies such as Splash.
After Staniel Cay, head to Atlantis resort. This destination features the world’s largest open-air marine habitat; Aquaventure, a 141-acre water park, including the iconic Mayan Temple’s Leap of Faith slide; 11 incredible pools; five miles of magnificent beaches; a Tom Weiskopf-designed 18-hole, oceanfront golf course; and the Atlantis Casino.
As you begin to wrap up your excursion, there is one last stop to make on the Bahamas itinerary before making your way back to Florida, and that is Bimini. Bimini is the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States. This island is well known for the Sapona Shipwreck, Fountain of Youth, and is considered to be one of the top sportfishing spots in the world. Bimini is the perfect ending to an unforgettable Bahamas Excursion.
