About the International Yacht Brokers Association [IYBA]

Galati Yacht Sales has been a part of the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) since the early days. With over 1500 members and 400+ businesses, IYBA is the world’s largest and most influential association for yacht brokerage and the charter industry. This leading association offers several member benefits and is also home to the only yacht brokerage multiple listing service that is member owned. The MLS platform introduced in 2019 (IYBA.PRO) allows members to control their data and promote their products in ways never previously achieved through private enterprise.

History of the IYBA

The inception of IYBA was in 1987 by a coalition of yacht brokerage business owners in South Florida. Their mission— to unite yacht brokerages while promoting professionalism and cooperation among members; promoting and maintaining a high standard of conduct in the transacting of the yacht brokerage business. Every member abides by a code of ethics to protect the public against fraud, misrepresentation, or unethical practices in the yachting industry. Consumer protection is the foundation of this code of ethics. In the event of a disagreement amongst member brokers, the Ethics Committee is equipped to resolve disputes.

Ongoing Educational Seminars and Services

In addition, the IYBA provides members with ongoing educational seminars and services to strengthen the ability of the yachting industry in terms of local and international regulations, industry tools, trends, legal, technical, and environmental concerns. Additional resources such as a documents library with pre-filled templates, up-to-date industry news, Compass Magazine subscription, networking events, and a member directory are just some of the ongoing services available to members. IYBA also offers an Affiliate Member program. The program highlights affiliate members that work in marine insurance, finance, media, marketing, manufacturing, marinas, and other related fields.

Consumer Benefits

Other benefits that correlate to the customer include having access to data not available to the public. Members of the IYBA have access to boat history reports to help their clients make better lending and used boat purchase decisions. Government Affairs Program

Another one of IYBA’s most essential services is an ongoing government affairs program. This program monitors and sponsors legislation to improve and grow the yacht brokerage industry, while helping to remove barriers and improve consumer protections. By actively engaging with state and local legislators, their efforts have protected and nurtured the yachting community since its inception.

Professionalism & Certifications

Professionalism is another immense attribute of the IYBA. In 1999, the CPYB Program was formed as a joint effort of the Yacht Brokers Association of America (YBAA), the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) California Yacht Brokers Associate, Ontario Yacht Brokers Association, and the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association. The certifications objective has been to set a performance baseline for professional yacht brokers nationwide. Becoming a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) is one of the industry’s most prestigious recognitions.

IYBA.PRO MLS Service

Lastly, the MLS service offered by IYBA (IYBA.PRO) is the yachting industry’s only member listing service. The IYBA MLS portal unites members for the benefit of all.
