Galati Yacht Sales Anna Maria is proud to announce the sale of “Kelsey Lee”, a custom 2005 78 Garlington Skybridge yacht. “Kelsey Lee” is one of only three classic 78 foot Garlington Sportfish boats in the world ….and the one and only 78 foot Garlington yacht built with a Skybridge for ultimate long-range angling and extreme comfort. Not only is Kelsey Lee one of the most unsurpassed custom sportfish yachts in her class, but she has an amazing history of inspiring tournament wins and research travel escapades.
The 78 Garlington yacht closed on February, 14th 2020, with an in-house sale assisted by yacht broker Steve Lassley representing the buyers, and Nick Galati representing the sellers. At the time of sale, “Kelsey Lee” had an asking price of $2,399,000. Team Galati extends congratulations to both parties of the transaction.
It all started with one man, Paxson “Packy” Offield, a man with a passion for billfish science and conservation and the earth’s natural resources. Packy spent most of his life giving his time and support to a number of organizations, including the Billfish Foundation and IGFA, in which he was director and chairman. He was also the recipient of TBF’s most prestigious award, the Rybovich Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
When it was time to build a custom sportfish yacht, Packy turned to Garlington Landeweer Yachts to build “Kelsey Lee.” Built in New Zealand and later shipped to California, “Kelsey Lee” was custom constructed for ultimate long-range trips; a significant tool for his Billfish research and a leading tournament contender.
With the launch of The Offield Center for Billfish Studies, Offield needed a vessel that would be able to endure trips for up to weeks at a time. It was essential that during the build process for Kelsey Lee, she was equipped with a large fuel capacity and top of the line luxury features for added comfort to travel worldwide. Aboard Kelsey Lee, Offield made significant developments in his billfish conservation efforts. Including advances in post relief mortality studies for billfish and developing satellite tags for tagging billfish to track migration and other data. Kelsey Lee was a significant tool in these advances and allowed Offield to take tissue samples and place over 1000 satellite tags on monster game fish throughout the Pacific; a truly historic accomplishment amongst scientific research.
The 78 Garlington Yacht has seen destinations all over the Pacific. From Ecuador to Tahiti, to Mexico, Costa Rica, and The Galapagos, to name a few. Although Offield spent a lot of his time committed to organizations he also enjoyed living life aboard Kelsey Lee. He was a top-notch offshore angler on this custom sportfish 78 Garlington yacht. Winning tournaments that include the Tuna Club Benefit Tournament, The Tuna Club Hunt Tournament, and a top boat in the The Balboa Master Angler Billfish Tournament.
