Nordic Tugs are not for those occasional boaters but for the absolute lover of oceans, lakes, and seas. One buys a Nordic Tug Trawler not because it’s pretty or because it’s the “in” style but because they know the secret to quality life on the water and want to experience it.
Nordic Tug Boats History
Nordic Tugs is the result of the combined efforts of Jerry Husted, who purchased the ocean ketches manufacturing company Blue Water Boats in the 70s, and hired naval architect Lynn Senour. Nordic Tugs grew out of the fuel crisis of that time. What was needed then is still a need now — a vessel that is fuel-efficient and conscientious of the desired qualities of a cruiser. Nordic Tugs debuted at the 1980 Seattle International Boat Show to a frenzy of a crowd with its initial trawler, the Nordic Tug 26. For the duration of the show, thirty-seven tugs were sold — one tug boat every three hours.
Demand has remained high for these beautiful vessels. In 1988, only eight years after their initial exposure, they already had to move facilities to accommodate the higher demand for their product. They expanded again in 2007 and once more in 2014, and their space became 80,000 square feet in total. In 2007 they also started exporting vessels abroad to meet international demand.
The Quality of a Nordic Tug Boat
Quality over quantity is this Nordic Tug's motto. Over four decades of trawler manufacturing ensures this company knows what they are doing. The wood is handpicked, and they are meticulous when it comes to precision control. The company has a crew test each boat on the water only after careful on-land evaluations. They are so sure in their workmanship that they offer a 10-year hull warranty on each ship.

Attention to detail is not just in the process of making these beauties but in the design as well. The current production range of Nordic Tugs varies from 26-54 feet. The mid-range 44’ Nordic Tug touts a three-screen display at the helm, coupled with professional-grade chairs for optimal comfort. The living area is particularly spacious, with an island separating the kitchen from the rest of the seating space that includes an L-shaped couch and two reading areas.
"From soles to salon roof, Nordic Tugs are built for years of reliable service so you and your family can go where you want when you want and know that your boat is ready and waiting for the next journey," as stated on their website.
Nordic Tug Expeditions
If attention to the boat itself doesn't convince you, let the experience speak for itself. In 2017, two Floridians, Joe and Pam Hallberg, completed America's Great Loop aboard their 42-foot Nordic Tug. America’s Great Loop is a 6,000-mile route. In preparation for their trip, they fit two bikes, two kayaks, and another boat on the stern.
For comfort and ease of traversing the aquatic wilderness, Nordic Tugs trawlers have always been and will continue to be, fantastic choices, especially for longer trips or
liveaboards. Living on the sea is a different experience, only for those who wish to be free. Nordic Tugs trawlers can make that dream happen.
