Mainship Trawlers, one of the most well-known American-made trawler boat brands, started in 1978 as a spin-off of the 34 Silverton Mainship, a company founded by John and Warren Luhrs. Luhrs Corporation was the parent company of Mainship, which specialized in trawlers and Downeast designs from 30-43 feet. The company saw great success, even during the international fuel crisis in the 1970s and 80.
Mainship Yachts Expansion
When so many companies were going under, Mainship Boats saw this as an opportunity for expansion. The company responded by building over 1200 trawlers that appealed to a much larger segment of consumers. These yachts were economical, with low-cost production, a single diesel engine, comfortable accommodations, and affordable power for families.
Types of Mainship Boats
Later, Mainship grew to include sedan cruisers, cabin cruisers,
express cruisers, and
motor yachts. Today Mainship Corporation is the world's leading manufacturer of recreational trawlers and pilot boats built by
Marlow Marine, part of the Marlow-Hunter Plan in Florida.
