The Hinckley Yachts Legacy

Founded by Henry R. Hinckley in 1928 as the Manset Boatyard in Southwest Harbor, Maine, Hinckley Yachts began with a focus on servicing lobster boats and yachts for the summer residents of Mt. Desert Island. After building his first 36-foot fishing boat in 1933, which immediately attracted attention for its beautiful lines, demand for Hinckley’s hand-built boats grew rapidly, along with the yard’s reputation for attention to detail and quality.

Revolutionizing the Yacht Industry

In the 1950s, Hinckley revolutionized the yacht-building industry with the introduction of the Bermuda 40, a sailboat that seamlessly combined classic styling with cutting-edge fiberglass construction. This innovation propelled Hinckley to new heights in the world of yacht design. By the 1990s, Hinckley had once again set a new industry standard by pioneering jet propulsion systems in their powerboats, offering enhanced maneuverability and shallow-water capabilities—a hallmark of their iconic Picnic Boats.

Tradition Meets Innovation

Today, Hinckley Yachts remains at the forefront of luxury boatbuilding, combining traditional New England craftsmanship with modern technologies such as carbon fiber composites and advanced navigational systems. Every yacht is custom-built to the owner’s exact specifications, ensuring a personalized experience. Despite their technological advancements, Hinckley continues to honor its heritage, with each yacht embodying the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that has defined the brand since its founding. This seamless blend of tradition and innovation has solidified Hinckley’s status as a leader in the luxury yacht market, beloved by generations of sailors and powerboat enthusiasts alike.
