Jack Hargrave began his time at sea when he became a captain at just 17-years old. Not just the beautiful vessels that bear his name, but builders such as Hatteras, Burger, and Atlantic yachts owe much of their success to his genius. It was his pioneering designs with the use of fiberglass and aluminum that was part of Hatteras for 36 years. They and many others went to the Hargrave Company to have Jack design their luxury cruisers and fishing yachts. Jack's core principle for his designs was ensuring steadfast seaworthiness. Customers praised vessels he designed as reliable, durable, and having seamless operation at sea.
When Jack passed away in 1997, Michael Joyce took command of the company. One of Joyce’s insights was the realization that The Hargrave Company was not only a design firm but a brand. Joyce knew the industry changed and continually evolved. It was Joyce’s leadership and strategies that brought the Hargrave brand and Jack’s principles into the brand to become a success.
Joyce brought the best naval architect, engineers, and interior designers into the company. Joyce had the design teams adopt advanced; the still emerging computer-assisted design (CAD) software. CAD allowed design teams to streamline and speed up the process with exacting detail. The software enabled designers to build a vessel digitally and provide the data for performance while also giving 3D images to see interior design right down to the color schemes of the upholstery.
Today Hargrave has three principle models and a fourth coming soon. Whether it's the Expedition, Open Bridge, or Raised Pilothouse, owners are invited to participate in creating their perfect yacht, from colors schemes to fit-out and rigging. In the coming months, a 38' cruiser model will become part of the company's offering; an Italian inspired work of art, that guaranteed to turn heads dockside and in open water.
No matter new or pre-owned a Hargrave sets itself apart from all others with Jack's distinctive lines, open-water ruggedness, and unparalleled comfort.
Customers exclaim their exciting experiences on the water but also how customer service bend over backward to attend to every question and address changes or repairs; this is another distinguishing feature to owning a Hargrave. One that gives customers confidence and trust in the vessel and team behind it.
A company slogan, "Putting the fun back in yachting one customer at a time," reflects the company's repeat business and dedication to personalized care.
