Headquartered in Rockland, Maine, Back Cove Yachts draws on the state’s longstanding boat-building tradition to manufacture seven models ranging from 30 to 41 feet. History
Back Cove Boat Company was founded in 2006 by Alex Lipworth, an entrepreneur who was a serious angler interested in building boats that catered to die-hard anglers. In July, 2019, New York-based private equity and investment firm EagleTree Capital acquired a majority state in the company. Lipworth stayed on to guild product development, and John Dorton, former CEO of MasterCraft, was named Back Cove Boat Company CEO.
Back Cove also revealed plans for a 50,000 square-foot expansion to its factory, which will include a factory showroom to accommodate customers who are building a new Back Cove or looking for accessories to enhance their current Back Cove.
Design
The design team at Back Cove Yachts includes its management, design and engineering staff, who develop concepts based on their many years of industry experience. Back Cove’s Design & Product Development department takes these concepts transforms them into exciting motor yacht designs, while its engineering department oversees boat construction.
Construction
Back Cove Yachts are built utilizing some of the best construction techniques in the industry, including a VIP Resin Infusion process where fiberglass resin is infused into a dry stack of fiberglass under vacuum pressure. The process results in a resin-to-glass ratio that creates the strongest, yet lightest fiberglass parts available.
